King Edward Elementary is a strong community school, located in the vibrant, historic, family oriented community of Strathcona. Local artists are accessed to enrich student learning through the arts. Students from kindergarten to grade six achieve high levels of academic success in an environment which supports continuity of programming and high levels of communication and contact between home and school.
King Edward is also home to an elementary Interactions Program. This program is designed to assist students who have been clinically diagnosed within the autism spectrum. Programming focuses on assisting students to gain socially appropriate communication and behaviour patterns in the classroom and community. This program is an integral part of the school culture at King Edward School. Students enjoy the opportunity to join their grade level peers for inclusive learning opportunities that are individualized for each one, depending on their needs and abilities.
All students in kindergarten and grades one to six receive music instruction. Students in division two receive music and French as a Second Language as distinct entities. Particular emphases in programming includes a continued focus on academic excellence, inclusion, programming for individual differences and an exciting emphasis on teaching curriculum using an arts focus. Our focus on 21st Century Literacies is aimed at promoting self-directed learners who can think critically, problem solve, and collaborate. King Edward School is an integral part of the community and its slogan is "Celebrating the Arts in the Heart of Old Strathcona".
