Academy at King Edward Students show their Hearts for Haiti

Small actions with amazing outcomes

In the wake of the Haiti Earthquake the students at the Academy at King Edward school have come together to raise money to help in relief efforts. A pajama day was held and donations were collected from the students and staff. Some students were ambitious enough to bring in the entire contents of their piggy banks.

The grade six classes who are working on problem and issue solving in Social Studies decided that holding a bake sale would be a great way to fundraise. They took the time to make posters, send home notices, bring in baked goods and on Thursday February 4th they manned the tables.

So far, the students raised an astounding $1400 with more to come, when the Junior High Leadership Group sells Valentine's Day pins (Hearts for Haiti) in the up coming week. Once all of the funds have been gathered the students have chosen to donate it to the Red Cross of Canada Haiti Relief Fund.
